Gouken Senju was the Twelveth Hokage, the student of the Ninth Hokage, mentor and teacher of the legendary Three Sannin and many others, and was a legendary shinobi who was famous throughout the ninja world for his legendary battles against Orochimaru, and for his noble sacrifice which killed the Ten-Tailed Beast, and brought peace to the ninja world, though the Ten-Tails was later resurrected by an unknown group.
